One-Shot Antelope Hunt

So, I am always a little nervous to talk about hunting, bc some people can be really offended by it, but this is such a hilarous/cool story, I had to share:

About 6-8 months ago, my Dad called me with some exciting news. Due to a late drop out of one of the contenders, he was asked to join a team of 4 to compete in the "One Shot Antelope Hunt" in Lander, Wyoming in the middle of September. The One Shot Antelope hunt was started back in 1940 as a duel between Colorado and Wyoming.Twenty four contenders are given one bullet and one chance to kill an antelope. There is a time limit as well as many rules as to what constitutes a correct kill and shot. Included in the 24 contenders were, my dad, the Governors of Wyoming and Colorado as well as the head of the NRA. :) There is a lot of pressure to get your shot, and you don't want to be "that guy" that missed the antelope.

The night before the hunt they have a little ceremony sponsored by the Shoshone Indians.....apparently my Dad became "blood brothers" with them and they blessed his bullet. I think this whole thing is so hilarious, but I don't think my dad has been more excited about anything is his LIFE.....I was so nervous all day Saturday when the hunt was going on.....that afternoon Dad called Whit and me an gave us the good news.....he got his Antelope in one shot! He was only hunting for 16 minutes or something like that. I would also like to note that the head of the NRA did NOT get his antelope :) Enjoy the pics!!
